VINCENT CROTEAU

From the Site http://membres.lycos.fr/ancetre/croteau.htm Translated by Google

I L seems well that Croteau of North America have an ancestor common fore-mentioned Vincent. Wire of Andre Croteau and Marguerite Sharecropper, Vincent was born on March 29, 1644, at St-Nicolas of the small borough of Weak-the-Pinks, not far from Saint-Valery-in-Caux, located in the district of Dieppe, current department of Seine-Maritime, in Normandy.

Arrived about 1665 to News-France, it exerts the trade of shoe-maker. In 1669, it melts a hearth with Jeanne Godequin, born about 1647, girl of Jacques Godequin and Jeanne Dupuis, originating in Amiens in Picardy. The couple has three girls and seven wire, of which two concern us. The first, which is the fourth of the couple, Nicolas Croteau, born on January 29, 1671, at the St-Michel Coast and baptized the 1 er February, with Sillery. It husband with Catherine Mesney in 1709, girl of Étienne Mesney and have six children, of which Marie-Anne Croteau, born in 1719, who marries Jean-François Sévigny, in 1743, wire of the ancestor Julien-Charles Sévigny and Marguerite Rognon .

The second Croteau wire, which concerns us, ninth child of the family, Jacques Croteau, born about 1688. Jacques marries Marie-Charlotte Dupont , in 1728 and have sixteen children, including twelve deceased in low age, the others, whose three wire and a girl melt of the families. It is the girl, Marie-Louise Croteau, born in 1733, who binds us to the parents with her marriage in 1750, with Pierre Houde , known as Desruisseaux, wire of Jean-baptiste and Marie-Francoise Demers .

The ancestor Vincent Croteau, very continuously to exert his trade of shoe-maker is a also farmer, which, to the 17 E century, means clearer, logger, ploughman and pit sawyer.
After having lived a score of years in Quebec or in his suburbs, Vincent crosses the St. Lawrence river with weapons and luggage to be established in the seigniory of Lauzon.

Between the end of 1710 and the beginning 1715, the ancestor of Croteau is not any more this world. When is it deceased and in which circumstances? No one does not know it. Its act of burial, if there existed, is lost.

Jeanne Gaudequin deplored this loss during about fifteen years, because it lives until October 1727.
